Konami has released a new Metal Gear Solid: Master Collection update, and while the improvements being made to the game are mostly on the technical side, they should be pretty noticeable if you've been feeling like the collection's visuals are lacking.
The update is only available on PC right now, but Konami says it'll be pushing said update out to other platforms "at a later date", so the PlayStation, Xbox, and Switch versions of the game should get these improvements in due course as well.
The biggest improvements you'll notice pertain to the Master Collection versions of Metal Gear Solid 2 and Metal Gear Solid 3, both of which now have new upscaling and resolution preset options to make them look a bit nicer.
New internal upscaling methods have been added to both games; they can now upscale all the way to 4K, resulting in "sharper visuals". What's more, the internal resolution can now be set to 1080p thanks to the new "Adjusted Mode" resolution preset.
If you're not up on the technical jargon, this essentially means that with a new graphics mode, you can make Metal Gear Solid: Master Collection look nicer (although not the first game, sadly, which seems to have missed out on these features).
You can also now choose to display in-game movies at a higher resolution, which should make them look a bit less grainy. Here's a comparison video showing the difference in Metal Gear Solid 2.
If you're more partial to some roasted snake, here's a comparison video showing off the new upscaling in Metal Gear Solid 3.
As well as these new visual options, both games have also received some new controller layout settings, as well as new keyboard and mouse support functionality. You can check out the full changelog here.
Metal Gear Solid: Master Collection is a bundle that collects remastered versions of the original Metal Gear Solid, as well as its two direct sequels (or prequels in Snake Eater's case).
Unlike the upcoming Metal Gear Solid 3 remake, these are very much remasters, so even with the fancy new graphical settings, you'll be playing tricked-out versions of the originals rather than full reimaginings.
You can check out Metal Gear Solid: Master Collection right now on PC, PlayStation, Xbox, and Nintendo Switch. The new update is available on PC right now, and will be coming to consoles at a future point.
