The smoke has cleared and we finally have an announcement of a Metal Gear Solid 3 remake by Konami. This follows rampant rumors over the past few years especially following the announcement of the Silent Hill 2 Remake, as well as speculation over anything Metal Gear related lately.
As some of the rumors had recently shared, the game will be available not just on PlayStation 5, but also PC, and Xbox Series X|S. It has a somewhat annoying official name with Metal Gear Solid Δ: Snake Eater, as the symbol replaces 3 for whatever reason. The trailer can be seen right here:
Metal Gear Solid 3 is a revered title in general, having released in 2004 on PlayStation 2 originally. It was the first time the series had hopped to the new hardware and was designed as a less meta experience than the groundbreaking Metal Gear Solid 2: Sons of Liberty. With a 91 overall Metacritic rating, and legions of fans, it can be said that it did that while showing some of the backstory for the Metal Gear series as a whole and what led to the events in the contemporary parts of the series.
In a developer letter on their website, they explain a bit about how they are approaching the remake:
"We are remaking Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater, one of the most beloved instalments of the Metal Gear series, revealing the origin story of Snake, as Metal Gear Solid Δ: Snake Eater. We are working hard for Metal Gear Solid Δ: Snake Eater to be a faithful recreation of the original story and game design, while evolving the gameplay with stunning visuals and a seamless user experience."
Metal Gear Solid Master Collection Vol 1 Revealed
Beyond the remake of Metal Gear Solid 3, Konami also announced that they were bringing the first three games to the PlayStation 5. This includes Metal Gear Solid 1, Metal Gear Solid 2: Sons of Liberty, and the original Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater. The most promising part of it is perhaps the Vol 1 part indicating that Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of Liberty might finally be rescued from being trapped in PlayStation 3 purgatory in the near future. The Metal Gear Solid Master Collection Vol 1 will release this Fall.
