Recently at Mech_Con, Piranha Games announced the release date for MechWarrior 5: Mercenaries, the first single-player entry in the franchise in 16 years.
“Getting to meet with MechWarrior’s most diehard fans and see them react to the team’s hard work at Mech_Con has become an incredible tradition for us," said Russ Bullock, president of Piranha Games. “The team has put so much work and passion into our mission to bring MechWarrior back into the spotlight, and seeing our excitement for what’s still to come for this classic series reverberate with the community in the room tonight was incredible.”
MechWarrior 5 will allow players to create their mercenary unit through a "multi-year campaign", which is set through the Third and Fourth Succession Wars. Players will be able to play with AL-controlled pilots or up to three friends, with all players choosing which contracts to accept, where to go in a galaxy consumed by war, and when and how they will either repair their mechs or upgrade them using their unit's limited resources.
The latest gameplay trailer from Mech_Con shows off the "high-stakes battles" and the decisions players will have to make while controlling their own mercenary unit. Check it out below:
MechWarrior 5 will release September 10, 2019, on PC.
It is always great to see a beloved PC series receive a sequel, and for MechWarrior it is no different. I have never played MechWarrior before, but I can always see the appeal of building a big mech and beating the crap out of other robots. The fact that there is a Mech_Con in of itself means that this announcement has been a long time coming, and I hope that whoever likes this series receives the awesome single-player game that they deserve after waiting for nearly two decades.
