A new trailer is out now for Marvel's Spider-Man 2. Insomniac Games' follow-up to their beloved open-world superhero title debuted at this year's Sony's PlayStation Showcase. Better still, it shows off brand-new gameplay as well as some iconic Spider-Man villains.
Marvel's Spider-Man 2 gameplay trailer
The newest trailer for Marvel's Spider-Man 2 opens with an intense hunt in a jungle. Eventually, it is revealed that the hunters are actually followers of the deadly Kraven The Hunter, the scene ending with him turning his attention to New York.
The trailer then pivots to some brand-new gameplay featuring the wisecracking wall-crawler. It opens with Peter Parker fighting off armored soldiers, all while in the iconic black symbiote suit. The game even shows off some brand new attacks with Peter sprouting several tendrils and taking out multiple opponents This isn't a major surprise since the initial announcement trailer confirmed the game would have the villain Venom, whose origins are strongly tied to the suit.
But Peter isn't the only superhero in Marvel's Spider-Man 2. In an instant, the gameplay shifts from Peter Parker to Miles Morales infiltrating an abandoned warehouse. Miles own distinct gameplay remains the same, including his ability to turn invisible and generate bioelectric blasts.
The trailer ultimately climaxes with an intense chase sequence. Speeding boats, flying drones, and lots of superhero bombast. In many ways, the extended sequence was reminiscent of another Sony franchise, Uncharted, with its high production values and cinematic tension.
The trailer also provides some tantalizing narrative details on Marvel's Spider-Man 2. In addition to Kraven's desire to hunt the titular hero, it appears another major character, The Lizard will also play a key role. And with the presence of the black suit enabling a lot of Peter Parker's more aggressive personality traits, it can lead to some potent tension between him and Miles Morales.
Marvel's Spider-Man 2 is set to release in Fall of 2023.
