Fans of the webhead rejoice, Marvel's Spider-Man 2 has been announced.

As part of Sony's PlayStation Showcase presentation, Insomniac Games released a brand new announcement trailer. The trailer itself was very light on story, showing both versions of Spider-Man, Miles Morales and Peter Parker, fighting superpowered criminals together. We even briefly see Peter using additional metal arms like in the MCU's Avengers: Infinity War and in the comic book event Superior Spider-Man. A narrative voice-over seems to allude to a new villain "seeing a worthy hunt." Given that the voice has a thick Russian accent, this is obvious foreshadowing of supervillain Kraven the Hunter being a major threat in this game.

But the trailer ends with one last major tease. It shows Miles and Peter looking down a dark alleyway, which slowly reveals not Kraven, but the black suited symbiote himself, Venom.

Insomniac Games go into further detail on PlayStation Blog about their plans for the sequel. First, the majority of the team that worked on the excellent Marvel's Spider-Man as well as the equally impressive Spider-Man: Mile Morales will be returning to work on this new installment. This includes Creative Director Bryan Inithar, Creative Director Ryan Smith, as well as Yuri Lowenthal and Nadji Jeter reprising their roles as the arachnid-themed superheroes. Insomniac also confirmed that the role of Venom would be performed by none other than the Candyman himself, Tony Todd.

This announcement comes as the second major project Insomniac Games will have set in the Marvel Universe. In addition to Marvel's Spider-Man 2, the PlayStation Showcase presentation included a brief teaser confirming that a Marvel's Wolverine game is currently in development. Whether or not this will continue a shared universe with the videogame version of the famous wallcrawler remains to be seen.

Marvel's Spider-Man 2 is slated to release some time in 2023 exclusively on PlayStation 5.
