New details have been revealed for Marvel's Avengers War for Wakanda expansion via a new War Table episode, highlighting new stuff on the way for the game coming to PC and consoles this week.
Earlier this year, Marvel's Avengers revealed its ambitious plans for the future of the game. Quite a lot of content was promised to players, but the centerpiece of it all is the upcoming expansion featuring Black Panther. A new War Table episode has dropped today, revealing some fresh details about what's coming to the game with this expansion.
What We Learned About the Marvel's Avengers War for Wakanda Expansion
Marvel's Avengers War for Wakanda expansion promises to deliver some familiar sights to players while also mixing things up a bit with an original story.
Long-running Black Panther rival Ulysses Klaw has invaded Wakanda and Black Panther must fend him off. This won't be easy to do alone, though, and T'Challa subsequently seeks out some help from The Avengers, kicking off the story of this expansion proper.
Klaw's army has placed towers that are trying to extract vibranium from the soil. Unfortunately, this process is creating a poisonous, corrupted version of the material that is destroying the environment. Klaw also happened to bring quite a few bad guys along with him, so it's up to T'Challa and The Avengers to beat up these bad guys and stop the theft of Vibranium. Crossbones will also be in the game serving as Klaw's lieutenant.
As for the Black Panther character, he has several mechanics that are well-suited to his backstory. The centerpiece of his abilities is the "Intrinsic Meter," a measurement of how much kinetic energy his suit has absorbed by blocking and parrying. All of the stored energy can be released with Percussive Blast, knocking back and damaging enemies in a wide radius and boosting his melee damage for a short time afterward.
This isn't all that Black Panther has in his arsenal. He can throw daggers that will make enemies more vulnerable to melee damage. These ranged abilities extend to support functions, too, through the Kimoyo Beads that can be used to buff allies or debuff enemies. T'Challa has some flashy melee combat moves, too, along with a neat spear called "King's Mercy" that can pin a target and deal a ton of damage. When things get especially tough, he can summon a panther with "Bast's Chosen" to charge through enemies and rough them up.
As for the gameplay, there will be a short, single-player introductory mission to get you started with Marvel's Avengers War for Wakanda expansion. Beyond that, players will get to enjoy new missions that have a somewhat larger emphasis on exploration and navigating rough terrain, centered around T'Challa's throne room as a base of operations.
Marvel's Avengers War for Wakanda Update is Changing the Game, Too
The Marvel's Avengers War for Wakanda update isn't just adding new gameplay content for players — it's making some big changes to the game, too.
One of the more notable changes can be seen with the game's menus — it will be easier than ever to navigate the new character pages. You can set up your character skills, pick your cosmetics, and more with a new, streamlined interface.
These menu changes are going to make the game a bit more convenient, too. Players will be able to easily compare the stats of two items at a glance. If you have a favorite item, you can "lock" it to prevent it from being dismantled or sold. That latter addition is especially important since players will have the ability to dismantle multiple items at once.
When is the Marvel's Avengers War for Wakanda Expansion Release Date?
The Marvel's Avengers War for Wakanda expansion release date is tomorrow, August 17, 2021. Black Panther and the expansion's content will be available for free to all current owners of the game, although there are sure to be some premium cosmetics that you can buy if you so choose.
Ultimately, it looks like this new expansion adds a ton of content. It's as good a reason as any to hop into this game; you can buy Marvel's Avengers for PC and consoles via its official website.
