If you enjoyed playing Spider-Man on the PS4, there's good news — you'll soon be seeing more of Spidey in an upcoming Marvel's Avengers Spider-Man crossover.

"Every once in a while, life presents you with a moment where your pursuits and your passions converge.," began a PlayStation Blog post by Crystal Dynamics Associate Art Director Jeff Adams. "Today is one such moment for me because I get to be the first to announce that our own Crystal Dynamics take on Spider-Man is teaming up with Ms. Marvel, Iron Man, Thor, Hulk, and Black Widow of Marvel’s Avengers."

The world of comics can get a bit confusing, so let's be clear: this isn't going to be the same Spider-Man as we saw in the PS4 game. This will be an original interpretation of the character with a strong focus on the hero's roots, so much so that they're taking costume inspiration from his original designs from the mid-20th century. That means that this version of Spidey might actually have the webbing underneath his arms.

This news is pretty cool, but there's a catch: the addition of Spider-Man to the game won't be coming for everyone. The Marvel's Avengers Spider-Man crossover will be a PS4 exclusive, so Xbox One and PC gamers aren't going to be able to play with our favorite wall-crawler when he launches.

Why the exclusivity? One likely reason is the rights to the character: Sony holds the rights for Spider-Man for films and games, so we may not seem him appear on other platforms for some time (if at all).

When Does Marvel's Avengers Spider-Man Release?

If you're going to be playing this game on the PS4, you'll be fortunate to enjoy an extra hero to beat up bad guys with. When does the Marvel's Avengers Spider-Man release?

According to the PlayStation Blog post, Spider-Man won't be available at launch. Instead, he's going to be making his debut as part of a series of in-game challenges that will debut sometime in early 2021.

Crystal Dynamics is clearly fleshing out its mechanic for adding more heroes post-launch; Hawkeye has already been revealed as a character arriving after the game goes live. It's unclear if Spider-Man will be the only platform-exclusive hero or if other heroes will make a debut in a similar fashion. Still, the existence of this crossover shows that it's a possibility.

For now, you can look forward ot playing Marvel's Avengers when it launches on September 4, 2020, on all platforms. If you want to play as Spider-Man, though, then you're gonna have to get this game on the PlayStation 4.

What do you think of Marvel's Avengers having a platform-exclusive hero? Does that sour you on a potential purchase? Let us know in the comments below!
