I hate to break it to you, but Mario has become the victim of an axe murderer. At least, it looks to be the case with the newest Super Mario Odyssey outfit.
This new outfit, as you can, is a zombified Mario with tattered clothing, soulless eyes, and a rather gruesome injury to the head. It's available right now for free, just in time for the Halloween holiday.
New Manga, Tile, and Kaleidoscope filters have also been added to Snapshot Mode in #SuperMarioOdyssey! pic.twitter.com/BHKgoYIrKp

Nintendo also showed off three new filters (seen above), although they're not nearly as spooky as the zombie Mario. The Manga filter gives your screenshots a - well - manga feel. It's black and white and has a sketched style to it. The Tile filter makes your screenshots blocky, and it could possibly work as your next bathroom floor design. The Kaleidoscope filter, on the other hand, is just that, reflecting your screenshots in that funky, psychedelic style.
Last May there was a leak which spoiled a bunch of new outfits that had yet to come out for Super Mario Odyssey, including this zombie outfit. Further, we've seen plenty of other outfits from the leak now release. Nintendo usually launches a new outfit every month, including Spewart the Broodal's outfit in August and a Conductor outfit last month.
There should be more to come too, such as the leaked Santa and 8-bit style outfits. For now, though, enjoy this super spooky Mario and be on the lookout for more free DLC in the future.
Quick Take
Maybe it's just me, but this zombie outfit looks a little outside of Nintendo's norm. Mario is arguably Nintendo's most coveted IP, and I was really surprised to see this skin. The axe to the head? Yeesh. At least there's no blood. Either way, I think it's awesome if a little disturbing.
