The Nintendo Switch exclusive Mario Kart 8 Deluxe only came out a short while ago, but already the augmented version of the Wii U game has managed to become the fastest-selling entry to the franchise.

With more than 459,000 combined packaged and digital sales in the U.S. on launch day alone (April 28), Mario Kart 8 Deluxe for the Nintendo Switch system is the fastest-selling game in the long-running Mario Kart series. The previous record holder for the highest first-day sales in the franchise was Mario Kart Wii, with U.S. sales of approximately 433,900 when it launched in 2008. The solid sales numbers for Mario Kart 8 Deluxe equate to an attach rate of 45 percent – meaning nearly one in two Nintendo Switch owners in the U.S. purchased a copy of Mario Kart 8 Deluxe on the first day it was available.
Those are some impressive numbers and they signify another hit for Nintendo after the Nintendo Switch release seeing a rather high adoption rate for the handheld console hybrid, which has sold over 2.5 million since it hit stores.

Mario Kart 8 Deluxe was met with a slew of positive review scores as well as enthusiasm from the fans of the long-running go karting spin-off of the Super Mario franchise. This updated version for the Switch has some additional content exclusive to this version of the game like new weapon parts as well as enhanced graphical fidelity over the original on the Wii U.

Quick Take

With the Nintendo Switch performing pretty well, the new system can still benefit greatly from having good first-party support and throwing a Mario game on there certainly won't hurt. While it isn't a completely new game, it's still one that is liked by many fans of the franchise and the Switch's ability to play with your friends wherever you like might make it worth getting, even if you already own the original.

I've been playing games since I was just barely able to walk so I might as well write about them.
