Spellbreak

What happens when you combine roguelites, RPGs, and battle royales into one game? Well, you get Spellbreak it seems. Soon you can try it out.

Spellbreak started development back in June of 2018 with a simple goal: take the popular battle royale genre and do something a little different. To achieve this, the developers decided that guns and grenades were lame and had to go. So they've been replaced with something a little better. Specifically, magical spell-slinging. The PlayStation 4 trailer features all sorts of spells. Want to call down a meteor strike? What about going back in time? Need an icy barrier? Earthquake? Tornado? Lightning bolt? There's a pretty large variety of spells on display, and it looks like you'll have to keep on your toes if you want any change to survive the barrage and be the last player standing.

While the game has been available on PC, PlayStation 4 owners can join the fun soon, when the closed beta hits the console in spring 2020. Want in? Then all you need to do is buy one of the game's founder packs. The cheapest, the Mystic Founder Pack, will cost $49.99 and include $35 of in-game currency and some special goodies. You can also grab the $79.99 Sorcerer Pack, or the $119.99 Champion Pack. No matter which of the three you get, it will give you access to the game's closed beta once that launches. Then you can be spell slinging with the best of them.

Spellbreak is currently available in closed beta on PC, and will be on PlayStation 4 in spring 2020. There is no current word on when the full release will be.

How do you feel about Spellbreak? Think magic is exactly what the battle royale formula needed? Wish they chose a different genre completely? Let us know in the comments below!
