Daedalic Entertainment and Nacon are teaming up to co-publish The Lord of the Rings: Gollum, a hotly-anticipated original adventure set in an iconic fantasy universe — but it won't come out in 2021 as a The Lord of the Rings: Gollum delay was announced.

The Lord of the Rings: Gollum is a game that focuses on one of the most interesting characters from J.R.R. Tolkien's epic fantasy universe. Gollum is a Hobbit that has been warped into a monstrous creature by the dreaded One Ring — and now you'll get to explore an all-new adventure with him in the spotlight.

One question comes to mind: Why are Nacon and Daedalic Entertainment working together to co-publish this upcoming game? Here's what today's press release had to say about it:

"The two companies decided to join forces to ensure that the game will meet the expectations of fans of The Lord of the Rings and fully leverage the power of the new generation of consoles. The universe will be faithfully represented thanks to the partnership with Middle-earth Enterprises, the company that holds the adaptation rights to the novel series by J.R.R. Tolkien."

In short: there isn't much in the way of details about what this co-publishing arrangement will entail other than an additional mention of a distribution agreement between the two companies. Financial support is a likely factor here, though — early last year, Daedalic Entertainment's valuation went down by €12–€14 million, largely due to the expenses of running the company.

Specific details on the company's finances were not released at the time, so it was unclear at the time if these challenges had negatively impacted the development of this new The Lord of the Rings game. Daedalic Entertainment later told WCCFTech that these issues have not materially impacted the development of this game.
