Hinterland Studio has announced the latest update coming to their popular game The Long Dark, as well as the roadmap of what's to come in the future for the game.
The thrilling open-world survival craft game will have an Expansion Pass released via Steam on December 5, 2022, titled Tales from the Far Territory. Players will enjoy brand-new regions and areas to explore, objective-based tales, new items for players to collect and utilize, and an overhaul to the gameplay itself. In the trailer, we see a wintery and snowy landscape seemingly abandoned and lost in time. We see the player, armed with a lantern, traversing a dark and decrepit train track looking for supplies to keep themselves alive. The player stumbles across some form of working technology that could play a huge role in the new gameplay.
Tales from the Far Territory is the first-ever paid update made for The Long Dark Survival Mode, which releases in multiple different drops throughout the next 12 months. With the thrilling new content update comes the announcement of the Roadmap for The Long Dark itself, giving us a glimpse of what is in store for the game.
Players who wish to save a buck or two have the option to just hang along for the ride with the free updates to the game which will be coming over the next 12 months as well. This includes things like Fire-Hardened arrows that can be crafted at any fireplace or campfire nearby, Acorns that can be collected from Oak trees, and even a "Global Wild Refresh". This refresh allows for a more realistic feel, as some animals will migrate to different areas at different times of the year. It also creates a new dynamic for players to try and adapt to, meaning that they will need to anticipate which wildlife will spawn where and prepare for the worst in several new situations.
