LittleBigPlanet's servers have been taken down in attacks that are ongoing. Sony has also confirmed this, as its external developer support studio XDEV has tweeted to confirm that the servers are down and that there are issues that they are grappling with.

What does this mean? Well, apparently the attacks have been conducted by someone who is unhappy with how Sony has treated the LittleBigPlanet franchise, which is actually somewhat understandable as it hasn't been treated that great over the past few years. Obviously, a DDOS attack isn't the answer, but if you've been waiting for a new LittleBigPlanet and get Sackboy: A Big Adventure (which is still a fine game) instead... well if I would probably be unhappy too. Interestingly, LittleBigPlanet for the PlayStation Vita hasn't been affected, so for those who still are playing the Vita version, you should be fine.

www.LBP.me also went offline in November last year, and fans of the series are thinking that it's due to the DDOS'ing individual that the site is unavailable. Originally, the site was down due to "general maintenance and updates", but with the DDOS attacks that are ongoing, it paints a different picture. Perhaps the individual started off with the website and move onto the games when no progress was made? Who knows.

There's also a movement to both #BringBackLBP and #SaveLBP on Twitter. Fans are pushing for the game to be fixed/updated and not abandoned. We'll have to see how it goes, but best of luck to them. They deserve to have their game functional at the very least, and they've made some noise with it having trended on Twitter at times.

Quick Take

The LittleBigPlanet series is something that depends on community interaction. It is through the community that the maps and modes and other cool things are created and shared, and without that community LittleBigPlanet is a shell of a game. That isn't to say that it isn't a good game, but that without the online features it is very much a diminished one. Hopefully, the DDOS attacks are solved as quickly as possible, because for those still playing LittleBigPlanet it's probably a massive punch in the gut for no reason at all besides someone getting their jollies.
