Life is Strange

Square Enix has announced the newest market they are going into – and it’s the interactive episodic adventure market. Life is Strange is developed by Square Enix in partnership with DONTNOD Entertainment and will be coming to Xbox 360, Xbox One, PlayStation 3, PlayStation 4, and PC.

Life is Strange is told in 5 episodes, where you play as Max, a photography senior. When Max discovers she has the ability to rewind time, she uses it to save her old friend Chloe who she hasn’t seen in over 5 years. Chloe’s life hasn’t been good over those years, with her life drifting further off course since her father’s tragic death.

The reunion changes each of their lives as they are drawn into the darker side of the town of Arcadia Bay. Exposed to the grimier side of the small town, they begin searching into the mystery of a missing student and all of the unpleasant truths around it.

Max though has to deal with an internal struggle as well. In addition to rewinding time, she begins to get premonitions, which make understanding her power even more difficult. Changing the past is also not risk free, as it can lead to a darker, and worse future.

The first episode will be released on January 30th, for all platforms. The price for it will be $4.99, with a season pass for episodes 2-5 costing $16.99, and a Complete Season order costing $19.99 – a couple bucks off effectively for pre-ordering all of it at once. At some point today you should be able to pre-order it if you want according to the press release.

One odd note there is that the complete season will not for some reason be available to buy on the Xbox 360 store – instead they will have to buy the Single Episode and the Season Pass for the rest if they want to get it.

A trailer though for you all before we go:

Are you interested in Life is Strange? How do you think they will implement the time travel aspects of it so that they retain narrative weight? Do you think Telltale's success means we'll see even more company's continue to hop on this bandwagon with games of their own?
