Today, Luc Baghadoust posted on the Playstation Blog that the game he produced, Life is Strange Ep. 1 will be free for Playstation players starting July 21st.
The popular adventure title released last year and has been a surprise hit for Square Enix and Dontnod. Previously, Dontnod were the creators of the niche action title Remember Me.
Thankfully, this offer isn't under any limitations for any Playstation users. As Luc says in the blog, "we will be giving away Life is Strange Episode 1: Chrysalis entirely for free on both PS4 and PS3! This offer is available to everyone (regardless of whether you’re a PS Plus subscriber or not) and will run indefinitely."
Life is Strange is a title with an impressive standing in terms of awards. These include a Peabody award for best story alongside a BAFTA for the same category. Square Enix has been very pleased with the reception Life is Strange has been receiving. Luc and the rest of the Dontnod team feel the same way.
“Although our team set out to create an award-winning narrative we still cannot believe the response we’ve had from players of Life is Strange” said Oskar Guilbert, CEO of DONTDOD Entertainment. “We’re really glad that Square Enix have decided to give the first episode away for free so more players can begin their journey and see why people have fallen in love with the game for themselves.”
Life is Strange tells the story of a very curious college senior named Max Caulfield. She discovers her ability to rewind time after saving her best friend from a dangerous situation. From there, things take a serious turn. The friends find themselves uncovering some of the seedy underbelly of Arcadia Bay, where they live.
The game is all about making choices and how those choices will affect the story as it unfolds. Depending on choices you make, you can alter the story for better or worse, giving each player a unique playthrough. So starting tomorrow, if you're on the fence and have a Playstation console, you can see if Life is Strange Ep. 1 suits your fancy. You can read our review on it here for episode one, and the whole season review over here. Happy gaming!
Available on Playstation 3, Playstation 4, Xbox 360, Xbox One, Windows PC and Mac OS, Life is Strange is Dontnod's impressive sophomore outing. They're currently working on new title Vampyr, which is due out next year.
