During this February's Nintendo Direct presentation, Nintendo revealed new information about all upcoming titles coming to their platform. These announcements include the addition of Game Boy and Game Boy Advance titles to their Nintendo Switch Online service, and Metroid Prime Remastered being shadow-dropped. Their presentation ended with new information about the upcoming sequel to their award-winning open-world adventure, The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom.

The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom reveal

Rounding out the presentation with what many had been waiting for was a trailer for The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom. In it, we get a voiceover of a sinister voice. Since it talks about the destruction of Hyrule with the trailer cutting between monsters, blood moons, and a mysterious corpse returning to life, it is most likely the voice of Ganon.

As the trailer continues we see more of the world of Hyrule. We get a glimpse of some new locations and enemies. We get a glimpse of what appears to be an underground mine, some tunnels, and what appear to be more variations on the bokoblin and moblin enemies. There's even a Dragon Quest-esque golem monster that shows up. The trailer also showcases some new gameplay mechanics such as homing arrows and grind rails. We even glimpse new vehicles like a cart, a hot air balloon, and even a large high fantasy drone.

Nintendo also shared via Twitter that each of the current Legend of Zelda Amiibo would not only reward you with materials and weapons in Tears of the Kingdom but would also give you skins for your glider. A few of the ones shown off in the official twitter post include a blue skin for the new Tears of the Kingdom Amiibo, Breath of the Wild Link, Zelda and Loftwing, and Link (Majora's Mask).

In addition, The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom will have a Collector's Edition. According to the official trailer, this edition will include a copy of the game, a steel book game case, a set of four pins, a steel poster, and an official art book.

The Legend of Zelda: Tears of Kingdom will be available May 12, 2023. The standard edition will be sold for $69.99, a notable departure from the usual first-party MSRP of $59.99. The Collector's Edition will be available for $129.99.
