Empire of Sin, Paradox Interactive's 1920's organized crime simulator, was featured today at the Guerrilla Collective show. This feature included a demo that showed us some new features of the game, including more information on the bosses players will be controlling.
In the demo footage shown today, we got to take a look at Charles Dean O'Banion, leader of the North Side Gang and one of the fourteen real-life mob bosses players will be able to control. Each one comes with their own story missions, sets of skills, and special combat abilities. Dean, coming from an Irish Catholic background, has a skill called 'Blasphemy,' where Dean shoots a specialized shotgun round that knocks enemies back and shreds their armor.
As for the gameplay itself, we got to see the presenters show off a story mission where Dean is tasked by a priest named Father Higgins to take out a brothel. After a brief interlude where Dean speaks with one of his speakeasy's regulars, we get to see a closer look at the gangsters players can recruit. Players will have a choice of 60 different gangsters of varying skill levels, relationships, and skillsets. Gangsters also have morale that requires management and loyalty that increases the more they work for a particular boss. The gameplay showcase ends with a brutal gunfight between Dean's gang and the brothel, followed by Dean reporting the brothel's shutdown to Father Higgins. Each boss has their own story missions, but they'll be nothing compared to the stories players create as they work to become the king of Chicago.
Empire of Sin is releasing Fall 2020 for PC and consoles.
