Layers of Fear

Bloober Team announced the latest release of the Layers of Fear series, simply titled Layers of Fear (because that's not confusing at all) has a launch window.

The game will launch in June 2023 for PS5, PS4, and Xbox Series X|S.

The announcement was accompanied by a trailer, which you can watch below, albeit it doesn't show all that much. It does a pretty good job of setting the atmosphere, though.

If you're unfamiliar with the Layers of Fear series, it debuted in 2016 with... Layers of Fear, and it then continued in 2019 with Layers of Fear 2.

This new release is basically a remake in Unreal Engine 4 of the previous games and expansion, letting players experience the whole series in one neat package. It was originally announced in 2022 as Layers of Fears but that wasn't confusing enough, I suppose, so they simply removed an "S."

Basically, the package includes the stories of the original game, the DLC "Inheritance," the sequel, the new DLC "The Final Note," plus the Lighthouse Chapter including a new protagonist, a writer who will tell a story tying up the whole series.

Here's what you can expect according to Bloober Team.

  • Explore unsettling environments and solve strange puzzles to unveil the narrative at the heart of this first-person psychological horror experience.
  • Three different stories of craft-obsessed protagonists (The Painter, The Actor and The Writer) which are interwoven to create a truly immersive experience and gripping storyline.
  • Everything in the Layers of Fear series, including all DLCs, so you can find the answers you want.
  • New brand-new core mechanics that will be introduced to Layers of Fear and its sequel, as well as additional features, so all the chapters and stories will blend seamlessly.
  • Rebuilt from the ground up in Unreal Engine 5, Layers of Fear supports Ray Tracing, HDR and 4K resolution to make the visuals as realistic as possible.
  • The new Lumen system offers the most immersive and visceral horror experience.
  • A hauntingly beautiful soundtrack by the highly acclaimed and award-winning composer, Arek Reikowski. He has composed a hypnotic score that adds an extra layer of tension to the game and will leave you on the edge of your seat.
