The wait is over; we finally have a set premiere date for The Last of Us television show headed to HBO. On January 15, 2022, Ellie and Joel will take over living rooms all over the world, telling the story of the AAA game for the very first time.
In a recent Tweet from @TheLastofUsHBO, we not only saw the poster for the HBO show in all of its glory, but we learned the release date as well. Fans of the franchise seem thrilled at this long-awaited announcement. Some fans even requested other games to be made into a TV show sooner than later, such as the God of War series, which is heading to Amazon Prime Video at some point.

The Last of Us has sold over 17 million copies since it first released, whereas Part II in the series alone sold 10 million copies, 4 million of which were sold the weekend it was released onto Sony consoles. The game has only increased in popularity over the years due to its rich storytelling, tugging at the player's heartstrings every step of the way, and unconventional encounters with clickers. There is nothing like panicking for a solid four minutes as you attempt to sneak past one of those terrifying and towering monstrosities inside of a dark and spooky building without them charging you at full speed.
Fans of the franchise are also excited to see their two favorite characters brought to life in the live-action television show since thus far we have only seen them as their pixelated selves. It appears that some of the most successful games and gaming franchises are turning the beloved games either into movies or TV shows, and either way, I'm here for it. With titles such as Days Gone being one of the adaptations we could see on the silver screen down the line, it's pretty exciting to think about what could be next.
