If you were chomping at the bit for a game that combines The Stanley Parable and Dark Souls into a satirical Souls-like, you now have it in The Last Hero of Nostalgaia. The game is launching on Xbox consoles and PC on October 19th. It's definitely a different take to all the dour and humorless RPGs that are coming out nowadays, so let's take a closer look at it, shall we?
What can I expect from The Last Hero of Nostalgaia?
The Last Hero of Nostalgaia is set in a world that celebrates videogame nostalgia. You'll be playing a game that employs complex systems and the dark aesthetics of Soulslike titles, and you'll be jeered by a cynical narrator that will make fun of you trying to save the world from a blight of pixelation. The combat will follow the "tough but fair" mantra popularized by Dark Souls, and the game will also include "engaging narrative mechanics" that will undoubtedly include verbal bullying at your expense. There's even an online co-op mode if you want to share the bullying load with someone else.

You'll be the most hideous pixelated hero to spawn in Nostalgaia, but despite your hideousness you'll fight back an army of mindless enemies that are populating a degenerating world. This is a thankless job, as the narrator has no qualms telling you how he despises your very existence.
Here's what Jon Warner, CEO of developer Over the Moon, had to say about The Last Hero of Nostalgaia.
“The Last Hero of Nostalgaia is very much a love-letter to the Souls series, but it’s still very much a game that I’ve tried to take in its own direction. When it releases on Xbox and PC on October 19th, players are going to discover a game layered with interesting narrative elements that plays with the balance between humor and darkness.”
