Grundislav Games, developer of Lamplight City and Shardlight, has announced a new project.
The game is titled Rosewater and will take place in the same world as Lamplight City. It'll be a point-and-click adventure game in the same vein as Grundislav's previous titles. Although Rosewater will be set in the same world as Lamplight City, things are leaning a little more Western this time around. Instead of the steampunk environment of Lamplight City, we're getting a good old-fashioned Western saloon town, judging by the screenshots and info Grundislav has released thus far.
Grundislav's tweet has a series of responses, many of which Francisco Gonzalez (the one-man force behind the studio) has responded to personally. Some of Gonzalez's responses give a little more info about the game and its world. He says he started working full-time on Rosewater in January, that it's very much a work-in-progress at this point, and that a release date might happen "hopefully within the next year and a half". There are a few interesting game design insights in there too, such as the fact that each background takes Gonzalez around 10 hours to hand-paint and that each Rosewater backdrop is painted at game resolution rather than scaling down.
Fans of Lamplight City can look forward to potentially meeting a character from that game in Rosewater. Gonzalez says he's looking to bring back a Lamplight City character who would "fit into the prospector life amusingly well". Lamplight City lovers can draw their own conclusions about who that might be, but Gonzalez is staying tight-lipped on specifics for now. We don't have too much else on the project for now but don't expect too much too soon given Gonzalez's candid estimate about when the project could be completed. Stay tuned for more news as and when we get it.
