Square Enix's epic Kingdom Hearts 3 got a new update yesterday, which brings with it a variety of new content for players to experience. The biggest part of the update consists of Critical Mode, a brand new difficulty setting higher then Pride mode. Once enabled Critical Mode alters gameplay in several ways the details of which can be found below:

  • Maximum HP and MP are halved.
  • The ability to use situation commands and magic are lowered
  • Sora is capable of using new actions exclusive to Critical Mode. These include Critical Counter, which increases damage from counter attacks, Critical Recharge, which fills the situation command gauge while recovering MP, and Critical Converter, which disables the attraction indicator but allows form changes to be used more often.

In addition to Critical Mode and all of the changes it brings to Kingdom Hearts 3,  this update will also allow players to start New Game with some of their previous playthrough intact. Things that carry over include any items you may have collected, as well as keyblades you have unlocked. Though said keyblades stats will be reverted to their base stats upon starting a new game.

Other smaller changes made to the game include checkmarks being added to synthesis items you've made in the moogle shop,  storage for an additional 100 photos being added to the Gummiphone, and the ability to check the Frozen Slider minigame from the mobile portal menu or results screen..

Kingdom Hearts 3 was released on January 25th for the Playstation 4 and Xbox One, and  is the final part of a story that began in the very first Kingdom Heart game for the PlayStation 2 in 2002 It follows the story of protagonist Sora, and his friends Goofy and Donald Duck, as they fight to bring an end to the machinations of the evil Lord Xehanort once and for all. What do you all think of Critical Mode? Is it enough to make you want to experience Kingdom Hearts 3 all over again, or is it simply not enough to bring you back for another go? Let us know in the comments below.
