We finally have a King of the Hat Steam release date. The party platform fighter, which is described by its developers as "an ancient gem from the Discord game store", launches for Steam later this year, and it'll be at this year's EVO, BitSummit Japan, and Super Smash Con events too.
When is the King of the Hat Steam release date?
Platform fighters are becoming more and more popular these days, with games like MultiVersus and Nickelodeon All-Star Brawl stepping up to challenge Super Smash Bros' crown. You can add another game to that list now because the King of the Hat Steam release date has been revealed. The classic fighter, which was originally available via the Discord game store, is coming to Valve's platform on October 22nd, so mark your calendar if you're looking for more zany platforming fun with your friends.
The wonderfully-named Socrates Sotos, who's part of developer Hat Games, says the team has been trying to bring King of the Hat to Steam since early 2019. Now that the devs have finally managed to do it, Sotos says they want to "shout it from a rooftop", and that that excitement will be mirrored at the Super Smash Con, BitSummit Japan, and EVO appearances the team will be making. Looks like if you've been waiting for your chance to play King of the Hat on Steam, that chance is finally on the horizon.
What is King of the Hat?
King of the Hat is a platforming fighter in which you must protect your hat from other players. Your hat is both your health meter and your weapon; you can throw it to defend from attacks or bait enemies, but if anyone crushes your hat, it's all over for you. The game's off-kilter roster includes a ninja, a sentient washing machine, and a cat in a suit, so you know what kind of territory you're in here; this game isn't going to be challenging The Last of Us Part II for the seriousness of its writing (not that it wants to, of course).
