Today, before the finals of The King of Fighters XV tournament at EVO Japan, SNK had some news to share about the popular fighting game, on top of an additional KOF surprise.
The developer rolled out a series of trailers on Twitch that you can watch below. We get to take another look at Kim Kaphwan, for whom we get a release date on April 4.
The trailer then moves on to the third DLC character of the second Fighter Pass, Sylvie Paula Paula. Then, that's not all, as we also get the reveal of Goenitz, who will be released in the summer alongside Sylvie Paula Paula herself and Najd. The clincher is that he'll be free, and you can't go wrong with free. Considering that he was namedropped in the story of the Awakened Orochi Team, perhaps this isn't too shocking.
It's worth mentioning that there are still two more unannounced characters coming in the fall and winter this year and, unlike Season 1, the second season focuses on single fighters and not teams.
That being said, Goenitz wasn't the only surprise we got today related to the KOF series. The trailers also showcased The King of Fighters XIII Global Match, a return of the classic 2D game from 2010 for PS4 and Nintendo Switch. It'll have rollback netcode and "tuned-up" online gameplay to sweeten the deal, and the open beta starts in early summer 2023.
You can check out all the trailers below. Incidentally, you'll also notice a quick teaser of the upcoming new Fatal Fury / Garou Densetsu game featuring three beloved characters that will, apparently, make a comeback.
The King of Fighters XV is currently available for PS5, PS4, Xbox Series X|S, and PC.
