SNK has announced that a King of Fighters XV cross-platform open beta test will be held starting next week. The test will allow you to try out the game's full roster of characters and will be available to you even if you don't own the game, so if you've been waiting to try out KoF XV, now's your chance.
Yesterday, SNK revealed that a King of Fighters XV PlayStation demo has been released, but unlike that demo, this upcoming cross-platform beta will let you try out all 54 characters (including DLC fighters) in the game. It'll also be available across PlayStation, Xbox, and PC, and both Steam and Epic Store users will be able to take part as well.
According to an SNK press release, the cross-platform open beta is being run in order to improve "the quality of cross-platform play" for King of Fighters XV. Whether you own the game or not, you'll be able to get a sense of what cross-play is like in the game, so now's the chance to put your money where your mouth is if you've been trash-talking your Xbox or PlayStation-owning friends.
The open beta period runs from April 27th through April 30th. All you need to do to join the beta is download it from your chosen storefront; it'll be available across the PlayStation Store, the Xbox and Windows stores, Steam, and the Epic Games Store. You will need to download this version to access the beta, though; even if you own the game, the test won't be available through the retail version.
Naturally, you're going to need an internet connection if you want to take part, since the beta is testing out King of Fighters XV's online capabilities. You won't be able to play Story Mode via the beta, and save data can't be transferred from the beta version to the main game. This is strictly to test out cross-play, after all.
King of Fighters XV is currently available on PC, PlayStation, and Xbox. Make sure to add April 27th to your calendar if you want to take part in the cross-play open beta.
