From RTS veterans Petroglyph Games and published by Funcom, a new Conan-universe real-time strategy game is coming out in Q2 2019 on PC.

Called Conan Unconquered, a cinematic trailer revealed the game during the Kinda Funny Games Showcase. The Steam page (which is up now) says:

Conan Unconquered is a strategy game set in the barbaric world of Conan the Barbarian where you must build your stronghold and assemble an unconquerable army to survive the savage hordes of Hyboria. Wave after wave of increasingly more difficult enemies will rush at your gates and you will need to manage resources, research new technologies to advance your defenses, and recruit an ever-growing army if you are to save survive utter destruction.
The game is both singleplayer and co-op. If you play Conan Unconquered as a cooperative experience, you share the same base and build it up together. You'll fight on randomly generated maps filled with ruins and treasure.

There's resource management, as is the case with most RTS games. An interesting mechanic in Conan Unconquered is that of disease. Bodies left over from large battles decay over time and can cause disease to spread - how you handle that isn't yet known, but apparently necromancers can be used to aid with that issue.

There also appears to be legendary heroes more in the vein of Warcraft III, who have special abilities and "artifacts." That includes the ability to play as Conan the Barbarian. Another benefit to you on the battlefield is by summoning a "massive avatar" which we saw in the trailer. By creating a temple you can summon these units to dominate the battlefield.

Look out for Conan Unconquered when it launches next year.

Quick Take

I'm not too familiar with the Conan universe, but this looks really cool. The trailer had me intrigued, as brief as it was. I think the things that stood out (besides the developer, who has plenty of experience with this genre) are the disease and co-op mechanics. I might pick this up, and it's all the better that two can play it.
