As seen during the Kinda Funny Games E3 2019 Showcase, Big Blue Bubble had a new trailer to show for Foregone. A stylish combat-focused platformer, Foregone is heavily inspired by Dark Souls and other difficult action games. You play as an Arbiter, an agent of peace sent to the ruins of a war-torn city. The Arbiter finds an unholy force at work, summoning undead monsters and spirits, all of which mix with the Arbiter's personal ties to the city. Though the Kinda Funny Games Showcase didn't have much in the way to show off for a release date, the Steam page says we can expect Foregone to enter Steam Early Access sometime in Winter 2019.
Promising a huge arsenal of weapons and a vast skill tree, Foregone's shots of gameplay showed off plenty of the 2.5D action, and not much else. Of course, the combat is everything in an "action-platformer," and it certainly delivered in spades for its wider reveal tonight.
Big Blue Bubble might be an unfamiliar name to many, particularly if you don't play a lot of mobile games. Founded in 2004 and based in Ontario, Canada, the studio's game development track offers plenty of educational mobile games, but not much in the way of traditional games. It should then come as no surprise that Foregone would draw heavily on inspiration from Dark Souls, as well as the more recent Dead Cells, in order to sell you on its high-flying action. Obviously, inviting direct comparisons to some of the best RPGs in recent memory is a tall order, especially for a small studio, but the early footage looked polished enough. You'll be able to snag Foregone when it hits Early Access on Steam in Winter 2019.
