The well-known adventure game Journey is now available on mobile for the first time, on iOS. The developer, thatgamecompany, suddenly revealed the release onto iOS earlier today via Twitter. This launch marks another platform ported by Annapurna Interactive after having released it onto PC in June 2019. While it first released on PlayStation 3 on March 13, 2012.
There hasn't been an announcement or tease on whether Journey will release on Android as well. However, thatgamecompany recently released their new game Sky: Children of the Light on iOS last month with Android to follow soon. It's a different situation since the developer made Sky for both platforms and Journey is being ported to different devices, but it still leaves room to wonder.
For now, Journey is available on iOS for $4.99 and requires the Game Center for running into other players online. It comes in at 1.1 GB and requires iOS 12.2 or newer according to the App Store page. While the game can be played solo, a large part of the experience is running into players randomly that may or may not help you in your adventure. If you still haven't played the classic, here's a brief description via the App Store on what to expect.
"Explore the ancient, mysterious world of Journey as you soar above ruins and glide across sands to discover its secrets. Play alone or in the company of a fellow traveler and explore its vast world together. Featuring stunning visuals and a Grammy-nominated musical score, Journey delivers a breathtaking experience like no other."The developer also provided a trailer below for the iOS release.
TechRaptor has contacted Annapurna Interactive for a response on if Journey is coming to Android.
Quick TakeFor whatever reason, I'm one of the few who still haven't played Journey and I'm not sure if now is the time or not. I'd be curious if other platforms still have people playing with how long the game has been out. I remember reading about other players running into others and not even realizing they were players until afterward. Even if it's better on a different platform, I might not get that multiplayer experience without playing one of the latest launches.
What platform do you think Journey will release on next?
