In an unexpected turn of events, Johnny Depps production company Infinitum Nihil has partnered with g4c innovation’s Gudrun Giddings to create a TV adaptation of the popular MMO The Secret World and its 2017 relaunch The Secret World Legends. Since it's in the very early stages of production not much is known about the script or where/how it will be distributed. What is known though is that the show will be written by James V. Hart (Hook) and its show runner is Pam Veasey (CSI: NY, In Living Color) and produced by none other than Johnny Depp.

In an article on Deadline, show producers Gudrun Giddings and Sam Sakar state;

“It’s one of the most character driven and well developed games I know of and naturally lends itself to fantastical storylines with intriguing characters, a thrilling and binge-worthy international TV show,”

“From the moment Gudrun first brought this to me, I loved this property. I live for conspiracy theory. I don’t believe it, but I love it. This is the secret story of the people who rule the people who rule the world.”

The Secret World was a decently successful MMO launched back in 2012 set in a modern day real world with an occult tone to its story. The game was well received for its diverse and open ended skill system and fun combat and just last month saw a free to play relaunch titled The Secret World Legends available on the PC.

Quick Take

Johnny Depps production company has announced its involvement with a TV series for the MMO The Secret World set to go into pre-production soon. As someone who's worked in the TV business his entire life, I can tell you that this is just the beginning of a very long road towards production. No distributor or network has been attached to the project and there's no word of Depp having any other involvement in the show other than Co-Producer. Let's hope this pilot season sees another video game to film adaptation that's more Castlevania and less Street Fighter.

Do you want another game to TV show adaptation? Have you played The Secret World? What do you think of the idea of a The Secret World TV Show? What game would you like to see on Netflix/Amazon/Hulu next? Share your thoughts in the comments below!
