A new Iron Man game is in the works, and this time it comes to us from Motive Studio at Electronic Arts. Having previously released Star Wars Squadrons, as well as working on the upcoming Dead Space Remake, Motive is now working on an as-yet untitled Iron Man game with a team under Marvel's Guardians of the Galaxy veteran Olivier Proulx.

What do we know about the as-yet untitled Iron Man game?

The untitled Iron Man game is aiming to do what a lot of superhero games claim as their focus - make players feel what it's like to be the character, in this case Iron Man. Games like Insomniac's Marvel's Spider-Man and Rocksteady's Arkham series managed to nail that feeling for their respective heroes, and it will be interesting to see if this team can do the same in making a Robert Downey Jr Iron Man simulator-slash-fantasy. Like those, the Iron Man game will be a third person action-adventure game.

This won't be Iron Man's first game, of course. He's been in a number of Avengers games and crossover fighters, as well as starring in a smaller solo game by the name of Iron Man VR back in 2020. Being restricted to VR, and only some headsets in particular, stopped that title from having the widespread reach of other superhero games.

This won't be Iron Man's first gaming rodeo.

Bill Roseman, creative director at Marvel Games, shared that the studio is thrilled to be working with Motive, and that Motive's experience with established entertainment worlds, as well as strong gameplay, were both key elements. The former alludes to the team's experience working with Disney previously on Star Wars Squadrons, while the team lead (Olivier Proulx) worked on the criminally underrated Marvel's Guardians of the Galaxy. Roseman said they wanted to deliver a love letter in the form of the "ultimate Iron Man video game".

"It’s an honor and privilege to have the opportunity to make a video game based on one of the most iconic Super Heroes in entertainment today. We have a great opportunity to create a new and unique story that we can call our own. Marvel is encouraging us to create something fresh. We have a lot of freedom, which is so engaging for the team.” Olivier Proulx, executive producer of the currently-untitled Iron Man game

When can we expect to see the EA Iron Man Game?

Right now, the EA Iron Man game is in pre-production, so we're several years out. The studio will be sharing more as the game gets further along in development, but like we've seen with Skate, it's going to be a while. It seems that EA has taken an approach of showing games and their development progress earlier in the process recently, rather than being quite as secretive as a lot of the industry.

This is the first of several games we can expect to see in collaboration between Marvel and Electronic Arts. What these other games will be, we don't yet know, though this collaboration does open up a lot of interesting possibilities. Stay tuned to TechRaptor for more on this.
