Marvel's Spider-Man 2 took the spotlight for a brief part of Summer Game Fest, and Insomniac used the opportunity to detail the game and provide fans with a firm release date.
During an interview segment held during the Summer Game Fest live event and livestream, host Geoff Keighley spoke with the upcoming sequel's director Bryan Intihar. The two stood in front of some new art depicting Peter Parker and Miles Morales in their Spider-Man costumes side by side, which Intihar revealed to be the cover art for the game.
Intihar then spoke on the themes of the game, and how the team aimed for a theme of working together due to both Peter and Miles being central characters. It was also confirmed that the game will have two central antagonists: Kraven, the master hunter who has come to New York in the hopes of finding a more challenging quarry, and Venom, who was teased at the end of the last game.
New art was also shown off during the interview, though most of it focuses around the two Spider-Men battling Kraven. They can be seen using their abilities to fend off his goons, and Kraven can be seen attempting to take them down while adorned in Insomniac's take on his iconic costume.
These were far from the dentral attraction of the interview though. An animatic video was then shown off of the game's title, wherein the phrase "Be Greater. Together" was engulfed and changed by Symbiote goo. It then changed to reveal that the game now has a firm release date of Oct. 20.
It was a short but sweet reveal, and fans can check it out for themselves via the Summer Game Fest VOD.
