Insomniac has defended its decision to make two new Marvel's Spider-Man DLC suits exclusive to PS5. The suits, which are inspired by the upcoming MCU movie Spider-Man: No Way Home, are due to arrive as part of Marvel's Spider-Man: Miles Morales Ultimate Edition collection later this month.

Why are these new Marvel's Spider-Man suits PS5 exclusives?

Responding to a new trailer showing off the suits, a Twitter user asked Insomniac whether it would "have been so hard" to release the suits on PS4 as well, especially when PS5 consoles are still in short supply. In a response to that user, Insomniac said each patch for Spider-Man on PS4 had been "more technically complex" and that the game's engine on PS5 allows the studio to "update the game without jeopardizing player experience". It sounds like the PS4 would have been somehow unable to handle the addition of the suits from a technical standpoint.

The two new MCU-inspired suits will arrive as part of Marvel's Spider-Man: Miles Morales Ultimate Edition on PS5.

It sounds like you'll only be able to get these two suits if you pick up the Miles Morales Ultimate Edition bundle, too. They'll be available for Peter Parker in the base Spider-Man game, so Miles himself won't be able to don them. They're inspired by two costumes that will be appearing in the movie: the Iron Spider-style design with a metallic logo on the chest, and the new black suit shown in the trailer that dropped a couple of weeks ago. Suits in Marvel's Spider-Man usually have some kind of unique power, although it hasn't been disclosed whether or not these suits will bring any gameplay benefit with them.

What else is going on in the world of Spider-Man?

It's a pretty good time to be a Spider-Man fan right now. After much waiting, the fan-favorite character finally made his way to the beleaguered Marvel's Avengers last month, although the jury's out on whether that'll be enough to save the game. In addition, during the PlayStation showcase earlier this year, Insomniac and Sony announced that Marvel's Spider-Man 2 is officially in production. The trailer shown during that event gave us a glimpse of what sounds like Kraven the Hunter, as well as a brief look at the terrifying Venom, voiced in-game by Candyman actor Tony Todd.

Marvel's Spider-Man 2 will pit Spidey against longtime series villain-come-antihero Venom.

We'll have to wait and see what else Insomniac has in store for Spider-Man 2; it's currently got a tentative release window of 2023 and will be exclusive to the PS5 when it does arrive. In the meantime, you can pre-order Marvel's Spider-Man: Miles Morales Ultimate Edition over on the official PlayStation Store. It contains both Spider-Man and Miles Morales, as well as the aforementioned PS5-exclusive DLC suits.
