Warner Bros Interactive Entertainment has announced Injustice 2, sequel to the popular fighting game that featured fan favorite DC Comics characters. First leaked yesterday during our E3 roundup, the game will be developed by NetherRealm Studios, who developed the original Injustice title.

The title also has a cinematic teaser trailer posted today, officially introducing the game and showing off several comic heroes, including The Flash, Superman and Batman, in action.

Despite the murkiness of the trailer, some details can be discerned, namely how every single character has some sort of battle armor this time around. Every single character gets armored up at some point, and with that we get some neon-accented arms and legs here and there as well. It is probably not just for effect, but rather a new mechanic introduced to the game that may involve leveling up the fighters, something that Creative Director Ed Boon is promising.

"In Injustice 2, we are introducing new features that will change the way fans play fighting games," said Boon. "We're always interested in pushing the genre forward and allowing players to customize and level-up their favorite DC Super Heroes and Supervillains is a significant leap."

Those level ups include not just cosmetic changes to characters, but also fighting styles and the gear used by them in battle, hence the tagline every battle defines you. Injustice 2 is also expanding the roster- favorites such as Superman, Batman and the Flash will return, but some of the new characters feature some surprising villains, such as Gorilla Grodd and Atrocious, along with using famous DC locations such as Gotham City and Metropolis as backgrounds.

The story of Injustice 2 will also follow in the footsteps of Injustice: Gods Among Us, with Batman and his allies trying to pick up the pieces of a destroyed world, while others try to restore Superman's regime, before a new threat appears that puts all the heroes at risk.

To celebrate the reveal of Injustice 2, WB Games is also giving out free costumes to fans of the mobile version of Injustice: Gods Among Us. The Injustice 2 look of both Superman and Aquaman can be unlocked in the game starting today.

Injustice 2 is being planned for a 2017 release on both the Playstation 4 and Xbox One. There is presently no word on a PC version.
