There should be cheers around my welsh homeland today as Infinity Runner becomes the first game developed entirely in Wales to make its way onto the Playstation Network.

The game which is part of the endless runner genre takes place on a spaceship which you try to escape battling against obstacles and enemies. Jim Sterling formerly of The Escapist reviewed it last year with muted praise giving it 3.5/5.

Infinity Runner was developed by Welsh studio Wales Interactive in Pencoed and so far is the only Welsh studio to have successfully released a game on the Playstation 4. Infinity Runner's Xbox launch is also reported to be coming soon.

The studio was created by Sony UKTEC's Sir Howard Stringer Foundation for Media and Technology, with the hope of developing a hub for media and games development in Wales. The studio is currently working on its second release for the PS4 Soul Axiomanother sci-fi based action-adventure game.

On the decision to invest in games development in Wales, Steve Dalton OBE, managing director of Sony UK Technology Centre, said:

"The gaming industry is continuously evolving; however, more often than not many games are typically produced outside of Wales. With the launch of this game it demonstrates that there are opportunities for developers here."
This latest news is huge for Wales, a country so small its population is about 1/5 the size of London's. David Banner, co-founder and managing director of Wales Interactive, has been extremely thankful for the help Sony has offered the small studio:
"Having a studio at UKTEC's Business Incubation Centre has really helped our business grow over the past two and half years ... the introductions made for our company have been invaluable to us and played a big part in our studio achieving official PlayStation developer status."
TechRaptor would like to congratulate Wales Interactive on their success, and look forward to their future works.

What do you think of the first welsh developed game?
