The Icarus 1.0 release date has been confirmed for this Friday and RocketWerkz had provided a list of what kind of content players can look forward to on launch.
Icarus was first revealed at the PC Gaming Show 2020 as a new survival game with a twist -- players will have a limited amount of time to explore a portion of a planet before they have to leave. Then, they can upgrade their tech and undergo another expedition.
It's a surprising change to the traditional survival games formula. Unfortunately, we've had to wait a bit longer than expected to play this game; it was first delayed to November 2021 and then delayed again to December 2021. Now, the Icarus 1.0 release date has been locked in and RocketWerkz has detailed all of the content that's coming with its launch.
What's Coming in Icarus 1.0?
The Icarus 1.0 release promises a boatload of content that survival game veterans are sure to make the most of. Let's start with the map: it will be 64 square kilometers -- that's roughly 40 square miles -- in size. There will be more than 35 missions at launch, each of which will last anywhere from 1 to 21 in-game days.
But what do you do on the planet? Well, there will be a bunch of things to craft as you explore and try to survive. These items include:
- 95 Building Materials
- 15 Crafting Benches
- 140+ Craftable Items
- 40 Weapon and Ammunition Types
- 240 Talents
There's no need to worry if English isn't your first language, either -- a total of 9 languages will be supported on launch.
Mind, this is not all that's coming in the Icarus 1.0 launch -- RocketWerkz has added "Outposts," special 1km x 1km maps that have no time limit and "limited dangers." These maps will be perfect for players who just want to chill and build.
For the more adventurous types, the Tier 4 Planetary Tech Tree will let you make the most of your expeditions. This adds electricity, hydroponics, and other high-tech items including the all-important Extractor tool that allows you to mine Exotic Matter.
When is the Icarus 1.0 Release Date?
The Icarus 1.0 release date will be between Friday, December 3, 2021, and Saturday, December 4, 2021, depending on your timezone; here's a shortlist of the planned launch times according to today's Steam Community announcement:
- Pacific Time - Friday, December 3, 2021, at 2:00 PM PST
- Eastern Time - Friday, December 3, 2021, at 5:00 PM EST
- New Zealand - Saturday, December 4, 2021, at 11:00 AM NZT
Naturally, this is just the start -- there's tons more content that will be coming in the future. You can pre-purchase Icarus for PC via Steam starting at $26.99 or your regional equivalent, a launch discount that lasts until December 13, 2021.
