If you have the strange urge to play a cooperative shooter that involves blasting dinosaurs, developer and publisher Systemic Reaction has you covered. How, you may ask? Well, the Second Extinction release date has been set for October 20 for PC and Xbox consoles. Let's take a closer look at it, shall we?
What can I expect on the Second Extinction release date?
Second Extinction is a cooperative shooter that gives players one goal: to reclaim Earth from hordes of mutated dinosaurs with up to two friends. The game can be played solo, but as the game is designed for squads it will be a tricky challenge to overcome.
The game has a big map with included regions, and each of those regions has a "unique threat level" that goes down if Second Extinction players successfully complete missions and activities. The dinosaurs have their own goals as well, and they will try to make a push in places where player activity is at its lowest. If the dinosaurs secure a foothold, there will eventually be a tough Emergence Event that players will have to deal with.
If this game turns out to be a trend-setter, Bossa Studios might want to take note of Second Extinction's example since they've declared they want to move further into co-op PvE experiences. This is a fairly creative co-op PvE experience, after all. Who doesn't want to team up with friends to shoot dinos?
Second Extinction entered Early Access all the way back in October 2020 after it was originally announced at an Inside Xbox event, which means it has received around two years of further development time. This should hopefully mean that Second Extinction will be a polished release, but we'll have to see about that. There have been far too many games with more than enough development time and completely broken launches, but Second Extinction should be able to circumvent that thanks to its extra dev time.
