Ryan Koons, director of the first HuniePop game, announced that a sequel, tentatively titled HuniePop 2, is in development. This announcement comes via a "Hunie Direct" video posted on the official Youtube channel for his "HuniePot" studio. Koons reveals two games within, The Spiral Scouts and HuniePop 2. Koons has previously talked about the possibility of a HuniePop sequel, and how he wanted to "go all out on it."
While the video doesn't elaborate on any new features yet, five girls are confirmed for HuniePop 2: Kyu, the fairy from the first HuniePop; Lillian, Nora, and Sarah, three girls from HunieCam Studio; and Abia, a Muslim airport security worker whose main hobby is watching adult content. If there was any doubt about the tone of HuniePop 2, this early glimpse settles it. The video closes with Koons saying that the team is aiming for a HuniePop 2 release in the second half of 2018, but that may change as development progresses.
The Hunie Direct also talked about Koons' other game, The Spiral Scouts. This title is a non-adult puzzle adventure game that will not be marketed under the HuniePot label, according to the studio's twitter. While the art and gameplay may suggest an all-ages appeal to The Spiral Scouts, the brief snippets of dialogue shown off indicate anything but. The Spiral Scouts were teased as early as December 2016 and are aiming for a late 2017 release.
HuniePop was awarded one of our "Most Overlooked Games of 2015," and snagged a spot on the Best Indie Games of 2015 list as well. With its unique blend of match-3 gameplay and dating sim elements, HuniePop may have been an unexpected combination, but a welcome one. With any luck, HuniePop 2 will feature the same irreverent humor and have more memorable characters to enjoy.
