Housemarque Celebrates 25 Years; Stormdivers Development Put on Hold

Housemarque, the studio cemented their name in the arcade genre with the likes of Resogun, Nex Machina, Alienation, and most recently, Matterfall. The studio revealed around mid-2019 they are working on Stormdivers, a futuristic battle royale title inspired by the studio's arcade work. The development team previously hinted towards venturing into new genres, and looks like they are doing just that.

Housemarque is celebrating its 25th anniversary, and part of their blog post talks about the studio's current and future plans. It goes through how the gaming industry has developed over the years, and the market witnessed an influx in the amount of digital titles. After that, the studio reveals they are currently working on their "most ambitious and biggest game to date" at the expense of everything else, even Stormdivers. The latter's development was put on hold for now, neither confirming or denying its cancellation. Let's call it a soft delay for now.

So now we are focused on delivering our most ambitious and biggest game to date, putting every other project on hold, including the development of Stormdivers. It is great that the whole company can come together to deliver this game, which will define the next evolution of Housemarque. We are very humbled to have amazing support from our partner over the course of the past few years, and this support has continuously grown on a monthly basis.

The developer didn't give a set date for their new announcement but it looks like their publishing partner will reveal it to the world once it is ready. Unfortunately, there are no hints to pick up what type of game to expect. However, considering Housemarque's staff is in its biggest state it has ever been, whatever comes out of there will hopefully be a pleasant surprise.

Let us know what are your expectations for their unannounced project in the comments below!
