Multiple sources report that the Horizon Forbidden West release date has been delayed to 2022 for PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5, dashing any hopes of playing the Horizon Zero Dawn sequel this year.
Horizon Forbidden West is the upcoming sequel to Horizon Zero Dawn, a game that puts players in the shoes of a post-apocalyptic hunter named Aloy. The world is overrun with deadly "Machines" (and plenty of human enemies) and the whole thing is a boatload of fun. The sequel was announced a little over a year ago.
The game was originally targeting a 2021 release date, but Bloomberg's Jason Schreier reports that it's not going to be launching this year. No specific reason for the delay was spelled out, but it's not entirely unusual — after all, the last year has been full of all kinds of project delays in the gaming world and elsewhere due to the challenges of the pandemic.
Additionally, Kitguru reports that the latest episode of Jeff Grubb's Grubb Snax podcast hinted towards a likely delay for the game. Between these two sources, it looks pretty likely that we won't get to play Horizon Forbidden West this year.
When is the Horizon Forbidden West Release Date?
The Horizon Forbidden West release date is now sometime in Q1 2022 according to Jason Schreier's sources. That means the game will launch on PS4 and PS5 sometime between January 1–March 31, 2021.
Sony has yet to officially comment on the Horizon Forbidden West release date delay, but Jason Schreier and Jeff Grubb are generally pretty reliable about these things. If it does turn out to be true, we'll have to wait until early next year to continue Aloy's adventures.
