Sony is planning a big Horizon Forbidden West gameplay reveal for later this week. The upcoming State of Play presentation, which airs this Thursday, will feature around 14 minutes of gameplay for the Horizon Zero Dawn followup.
What can we expect from the Horizon Forbidden West gameplay reveal?
In a post on the official PlayStation blog, Horizon Forbidden West director Mathijs de Jonge outlines what players can expect from the upcoming reveal. The Guerrilla Games director, who also headed up Horizon Zero Dawn, says the reveal will consist of 14 minutes of "brand new in-game action featuring our heroic protagonist Aloy". All footage you'll see during the State of Play presentation has been captured on a PS5 console, so it'll look pretty much identical to what you'll see when you get your hands on the game.
The PlayStation State of Play event will begin at 5pm Eastern time. Rather intriguingly, prior to the start time, Sony is teasing a "uniquely crafted countdown" to the event, which will begin three hours prior at 2pm Eastern. It's not entirely clear what this will entail, but expect some fun custom animations or some extra details about the game while you wait for the big reveal. Make sure to tune in on Twitch or YouTube to get a glimpse of that.
What is Horizon Forbidden West?
Horizon Forbidden West is Guerrilla Games' followup to the excellent 2017 open-world robo-dino adventure Horizon Zero Dawn. Originally announced in September last year, the new game will expand the biomes available for protagonist Aloy to explore, taking her beneath the sea, across ruined cities, and through sandy deserts, among other places. Guerrilla Games is promising a larger map than Horizon Zero Dawn's world, and there will be plenty of secrets to discover (and, of course, robot dinosaurs to battle).
We don't yet have a release date for Horizon Forbidden West. The game is currently slated to launch for PlayStation 5 and PlayStation 4 in 2021. We might learn more about a narrower launch window during the State of Play presentation, but given that we're only just seeing the first gameplay footage, don't bank on it. We'll bring you more on the Horizon Forbidden West release date - and what we learn from the gameplay presentation - as soon as we get it.
