Get ready to take on the State with your friends — a Hood: Outlaws & Legends PVE mode called "State Heist" is coming to PC, PlayStation, and Xbox next week.

Hood: Outlaws & Legends is a game where a team of four players take on the role of reimagined Robin Hood characters and attempt to steal a chest of gold from the King's men. The main gameplay mode features two teams of four players competing to steal the chest while also dealing with NPC enemies. The game's developer Sumo Digital is one of several companies that Tencent is seeking to acquire in a new deal.

Until now, the only option for playing PVE was a somewhat lackluster training mode. This mode was great for learning the basics of the game, but it didn't let you earn experience in some areas and wasn't much of a challenge once you knew what you were doing. That's all going to change next week with the debut of the new "State Heist" game mode.

How Does the State Heist Hood: Outlaws & Legends PVE Work?

State Heists will be the flagship Hood: Outlaws & Legends PVE game mode, allowing the traditional team of four to take on NPC enemies. If you're expecting it to be as easy as the training mode, however, you're going to be in for a surprise.

To start, most enemies will be a hell of a lot tougher — a single blow from a Knight can kill the lightly-armored characters Robin and Marianne. You'll have to work together to distract and assassinate enemies if you want to win the game.

Dying doesn't mean the game is over, though — dead players will drop a Talisman which can be recovered by a surviving teammate. Take it back to one of your controlled capture points and you can bring your ally back to life! If the whole team of Outlaws dies, the game comes to an end.

Tougher enemies aren't the only additional challenge — once you have the chest, one of several capture zones will be selected as the extraction zone; this means that every game you play will be a little different. Extraction works differently in PVE, too: it's done automatically once you've gotten it started. You and your team, however, will have to fend off the oncoming waves of guards while the chest is winched to safety.

The Hood: Outlaws & Legends PVE update release date is July 28, 2021, according to today's Steam Community announcement — that's next week!
