Since its initial release about a year ago, Metroidvania title Hollow Knight has received two free expansions which have added new elements to the already massive 2D game such as new NPC’s, collectible items, and boss fights. Now, developer Team Cherry has announced it is developing one final expansion, an expansion called Gods & Glory.
According to this announcement post on Hollow Knight’s Steam Community page, Gods & Glory will be the “final chapter” of the game’s narrative, introducing a new story quest which is tied to a new NPC, a female warrior known only as the Godseeker. Judging from how Team Cherry describes the Godseeker, it sounds like she’ll start out as a mysterious new enemy before eventually teaming up with the player to fulfill her final duty.
Naturally, Gods & Glory will also contain new boss encounters for the player to match their skills against, though Team Cherry is keeping the exact number of new bosses a secret for the time being. Each of the new bosses will be closely tied to the Godseeker’s ultimate goal, but Team Cherry also warns fans that the encounters themselves may not be as straightforward as they first appear.
Players who manage to finish the new Gods & Glory story quest will also unlock a third game mode (joining the default and Steel Soul modes from the base game), though as with the new boss fights, Team Cherry is leaving the nature of this new mode a mystery, for now, other than to say it is a mode that has long been requested by fans and “a classic for the genre.”
Rounding out the Gods & Glory expansion is some new music from composer Christopher Larkin as well as a new ‘Glorify Charms’ feature which will allow players to further customize their charm loadouts. A release date for Gods & Glory hasn’t yet been confirmed but Team Cherry says it should arrive sometime in early 2018 and, much like the previous two expansions, it will be free for all players.
