Team Cherry, the developers of 2017's critically acclaimed action-platformer Hollow Knight, has announced their next game. Hollow Knight: Silksong is a full-blown sequel

Hollow Knight: Silksong wasn't originally intended to be a proper sequel, but, according to Team Cherry, "it quickly became too large and too unique to stay a DLC". Although the idea had apparently been floating around since Hollow Knight's first release in February 2017, Silksong's been in development "for well over a year now".

The game will take Hornet to a new land and is planned for a multi-platform release across Windows, Mac, Linux, and Nintendo Switch. No release date has yet been announced. An exerpt of the description reads:

As Hornet, princess-protector of Hallownest, adventure through a whole new kingdom haunted by silk and song. Captured and brought to an unfamiliar land, Hornet must battle foes and solve mysteries as she ascends on a deadly pilgrimage to the kingdom’s peak.

The announcement includes a number of bullet points that are bound to get fans excited. Prepare yourself to explore "a whole new kingdom" as you "ascend to the shining citadel at the top of the world" with over 150 "all-new foes".

Meanwhile, Composer Christopher Larkin returns to bring "melancholy melodies, symphonic strings, and heart-thumping, soul strumming boss themes to the adventure".

If you backed the original Hollow Knight Kickstarter, you'll get a copy of Hollow Knight: Silksong for free. Backers of $10AUD and above will be able to choose whether they want the game on PC or Switch. Higher tier backers who received multiple copies of Hollow Knight will also receive multiple copies of Silksong.

No release date has yet been announced, but Hollow Knight: Silksong is planned for a simultaneous launch across PC, Mac, Linux, and Nintendo Switch.
