A new Hokko Life update has landed, and this one's all about bug catching. The appropriately-named Hokko Life Bug Catcher Update brings a monthly bug catching competition, new kinds of butterflies and fish, and a notification board for villager requests, plus lots more.
What's in this latest Hokko Life update?
Since its release in Early Access last summer, Hokko Life has received numerous updates, including additions to the farming system and narrative content in the form of new villagers. Now, a new update, which is imaginatively titled the Hokko Life Bug Catcher Update, is bringing bug catching to your sleepy little town. On the 2nd of each month, you'll have the opportunity to take part in a bug catching competition in which you must catch lots of a certain insect. Collecting as many as you can will net you a neat prize, so it's well worth doing. To complement the update, Wonderscope has also added 10 new kinds of butterfly (as well as 30 new kinds of fish, but you probably won't encounter those in the bug catching competition).
As well as bug catching, you'll also find a few useful gameplay tweaks in this update. A notification board has been added so you can quickly see whether villagers have any requests for you. It's also now possible to deconstruct items you've built on your crafting bench, and some new stuff has been added to the Painting Tool, including new objects, a multi-select mode, and a dark mode background. You'll also now find a new Hokko Life Japanese language option, so all in all, it's a pretty substantial update.
What is Hokko Life?
Hokko Life is one of a growing number of cozy life sims taking cues from games like Harvest Moon and Animal Crossing. Published by Team17, the game, which is currently in Early Access, sees you moving to the titular town of Hokko to start a new idyllic life among its villagers. You can do all the usual life sim stuff; farming, chatting to villagers, and gathering resources for crafting are all on the table. Where Hokko Life differs from its peers, however, is in its approach to creativity. The game has a large focus on decoration and customization; you can craft lots of items and put your own spin on them, decorating and changing them however you please.
You can grab Hokko Life via Steam Early Access right now, where it'll set you back $19.99. Naturally, the game will continue to be supported with new updates and content drops, so it's worth investing in early if you like the look of it.
