hipsters vs zombies

In the midst of a Zombie Apocalypse, it’s hipsters who'll save the day!... Or, at least, the part of it that’s worth their while.
If you thought hipster culture could not be parodied any further, then let Arpic Games stoke your imagination with Hipsters vs Zombies.

A 2D side-scroller set in a post-apocalyptic world, Hipsters vs Zombies pits characters of various hipster cliches against hordes of zombies. Even the plot oozes an on the nose jab at the culture:

An(other) unexpected zombie outbreak has brought the city to its knees. Society has collapsed to a nightmare state, and only the fittest or the luckiest have a chance of surviving this ordeal. Our protagonists fall on the latter camp.

This group of fashionistas, together by trend rather than friendship, survived the apocalypse thanks to watching a four-hour unknown Austrian film with no subtitles at an art-house cinema. Even zombies have standards! Luck will have them join a group of hardened survivors, who will see their resilience put to the test thanks to our main characters’ utter dumbness.

Arpic has released images of two of its characters, and states that there will be more.

The first character is Sugar and classifies herself as 'a tough, independent girl, a regular at music festivals such as Coachella or Glastonbury.' She is also a big fan of Ellen Ripley as per her carrying the massive gun in her hands.

The second character introduced is Ulysses and is regarded as 'a conceited poet who boasts about being smarter than everyone else.' His tagline reads: “The pen is mightier than the sword. The typewriter is also heavier.”

Each character will have a unique fighting style powered by armaments ranging from vinyl throwing discs and typewriters to hot 'Warbucks' coffee. Each character will have three ranged weapons with different speeds - normal, rapid (less damage), and slower (more damage) - along with a melee weapon. Each character will interact uniquely with objects as they travel through different levels.

Arpic Games will be running a Kickstarter soon for Hipsters vs Zombies.

In the meantime, you can find more information on their website, as well as access their facebook, twitter, google+, and youtube pages for updates.

So what is your take on Hipsters vs Zombies? Interesting concept for a parody, or trying too hard in an already tired genre? Sound off below in the comments.
