A Hideo Kojima Xbox partnership is moving forward — the odds are very good that Kojima Productions will soon be working with Microsoft on a new cloud-based game that will likely debut on the Xbox Series X|S and other platforms.
Kojima Productions was reformed as a wholly independent company following Hideo Kojima's departure from Konami. Since then, it has released Death Stranding for PC and PS4, a game that will soon be getting a special Director's Cut for PS5 in the coming months. Now, it looks like Kojima is moving forward with a new project — and this time, he's working with Xbox.
What is the Hideo Kojima Xbox Partnership About?
Earlier this year, VentureBeat learned that Hideo Kojima was in talks with Microsoft to publish the next Kojima Productions game during its investigation of Blue Box Studio's upcoming game Abandoned — a game that has been rumored to be a secret Hideo Kojima project.
Since then, VentureBeat has learned that Hideo Kojima and Microsoft have signed a "letter of intent." Essentially, this document is a declaration that one party will do business with another party. This kind of document will typically lay out the preliminary details for a deal without establishing any firm commitments. In short, it's one more step towards Kojima Productions and Xbox working together on a new project.
Those are not the only details that have been revealed today. As gaming industry tweeter Nibel reports, Giant Bomb's new GrubbSnax show discussed additional details about the project. Both Kojima Productions and Microsoft have shown interest in working with one another and the deal looks like it has very good chances of happening. There is currently no indication if Microsoft will invest in Kojima Productions.
That leaves us with the final big question: what is the next Kojima Productions game? The only other detail we have about the Hideo Kojima Xbox partnership is that it will likely be a cloud-based project, a move that would certainly enhance the portfolio of Xbox Game Pass and Xbox Cloud Gaming.
