Developer Steel Mantis and publisher Big Sugar have announced a launch date for their upcoming "heavy metal platformer" Valfaris. The game will hit PC and Switch in October, with releases for PS4 and Xbox One to follow in November. It was originally announced back at E3 this year.
Valfaris takes place in a far, far corner of space. The titular fortress of Valfaris vanishes from galactic charts and suddenly reappears orbiting around a dying sun. Naturally, having once been a paradise, the citadel is now home to countless monstrosities. You play as Therion, a former resident of Valfaris, as he travels to the fortress to uncover the reason behind its disappearance. You can check out the trailer for Steel Mantis' game below:
Steel Mantis is promising "brutal combat, deadly enemies, and stunning pixel art" in Valfaris. Makes sense, given that this is the team behind Slain: Back from Hell. The game will feature an array of weaponry, a diverse range of environments, and scores of enemy goons and bosses to destroy. If you're into your extreme metal, you'll be delighted to know that former Celtic Frost guitarist Curt Victor Bryant is handling soundtrack duties. Visuals come courtesy of Slain: Back from Hell artist Andrew Gilmour.
In addition to the standard version, you'll also be able to grab Valfaris: Digital Deluxe Edition at launch for PC and PlayStation 4. This edition includes a copy of the game, a full original soundtrack, and a digital artbook. No word yet on whether the Digital Deluxe Edition is coming to Xbox One or Nintendo Switch at any point.
Valfaris launches for PC via GOG, Humble, and Steam, as well as Nintendo Switch, on October 10th. A launch for PlayStation 4 will follow on November 5th in North America and November 6th in Europe. Finally, the game will come out for Xbox One on November 8th worldwide.
