Heavy Gear Assault, a mech game promised to be action-packed and full of customization, has begun its Early Access phase of development. Stompy Bot Productions is planning what they call a modular release strategy, implementing all the upcoming features over a series of patches while in Early Access. It's set to release on PC, including full Linux support and compatability between Windows and Linux users, sometime in 2016. You can buy your way into Early Access here.

Heavy Gear Assault is being developed on Unreal Engine 4 and sees player control mechs, Gears, where they customize then to battle other Gears in competition. As of now, there are 10 stock Gears to purchase, of which each piece from torsos to lower legs is interchangeable, allowing for a lot of customization. You can also add in a wide variety of weapons like sniper rifles and lasers, as well as other equipment like jetpacks and grenades, leading to even more variety.

Also offering a variety of gameplay modes and eSport features, Heavy Gear Assault will try to not let the game ever become stale for any player. It will feature a singleplayer story mode and several multiplayer modes, the first of which have become a standard in gaming like Capture the Flag and Team Deathmatch.

Beyond the core gameplay, which is the combat, Heavy Gear Assault also promises to bring in a black market, economy system, and more. Also, if you read through the plans for Heavy Gear Assault on the website, you may notice an emphasis on eSports. It seems the developers want to see this on stage alongside the likes of other games like League of Legends, but they also want to give you the feeling of participating with eSports in-game. For example, they plan a series of features where you can sponsor other players, vote on performances, put out bounties, pay others to take another player out, and corporate sponsors.
