Hearts of Iron IV is getting a new expansion in Hearts of Iron IV: By Blood Alone. It will add new paths and potential for conflicts in the all-too-familiar wartime era, and give players a chance to explore new alternative histories of Italy, Ethiopia, and Switzerland. Let's take a look at it, shall we?
What's new in Hearts of Iron IV: By Blood Alone?
The three new Focus Trees for Italy, Ethiopia, and Switzerland all promote different histories and playstyles for players. For instance, players can follow the traditional path of Mussolini's Italy, restore power to the monarchy, lead a Communist revolution, or promote democracy. Ethiopia gives players the option of either defeating their Italian invaders or resisting from abroad using unique Government in Exile abilities. Last but not least is Switzerland, which will force players to conduct a delicate balancing act as they're surrounded by France, Germany, and Italy.
There are also new Peace Conference options for players, which will allow them to demilitarize zones of the map or entire nations, which sounds pretty interesting. Players will also be able to bid on capital ships of defeated powers or claim control of enemy resources or factories as reparations. If that's not your style, you can design and build your own planes, which can range from nimble interceptors to durable bombers.
Smaller additions include unit medals (which can be tracked for performance), embargo interaction if enough world tension is generated, more than 20 new pieces of unit art for the Italian, Ethiopian and Swiss armies, 67 plane models, and 12 new music tracks.
