The announcement of Hearthstone's newest expansion has been long awaited by fans, however a prematurely painted advertisement on the side of a Brooklyn wall has revealed the expansion's name - 'Whispers of the Old Gods' - a day ahead of its intended March 11 reveal date.

Reddit user 'That_Azzin' posted on the site's Hearthstone board today alerting users of a recently appearing advertisement they found on the side of a building in Williamsburg, Brooklyn. Within, the user posted a picture that appears to reveal the name of Hearthstone's newest expansion, now believed to be called 'Whispers of the Old Gods'.

While Hearthstone's logo was unable to be found on the the then-uncompleted advertisement, the visible logo's art style seems particularly in-keeping with that of Hearthstone's other expansions, Goblins vs Gnomes and The Grand Tournament. This, along with a popular theory by YouTube content creator 'DisguisedToast' which received considerable attention on the Hearthstone subreddit suggesting that the new expansion will have an 'Old Gods' theme, corroborates the legitimacy of this leak for many fans.

Hearthstone's last full expansion - The Grand Tournament - was released August 24th last year, and the last update to add new cards into the game - The League of Explorers - was released in November. Naturally fans have been long awaiting the announcement of a new expansion, due to be revealed in full on March 11, as well as the implementation of a recently announced format change.

In Warcraft lore, the 'Old Gods' are a group of evil creatures that once ruled over the series' universe - they endlessly seek chaos and disarray in the world of Azeroth, and though they are of immense power they have long since been sealed away into various pockets of the planet. To enact their will, they instead whisper to Azeroth's inhabitants in hopes of corrupting them and convincing them to do their bidding, which would explain the supposed name of this newest expansion.

The details of the expansion are still yet to be seen, however - tune in to the official Hearthstone Twitch channel on March 11, 10:00 a.m. PST to watch the official live announcement.
